NYC Tattoo Co. was born on an old 80s sailboat anchored in the Hudson River, in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. There, we reconnected with the tattooing culture that took root in New York’s ports, carried by sailors who marked their skin with stories of the sea. This ancient art originated in Polynesia and Hawaii, where tattoos (known as tatau and kākau) and surf culture were born from the same wave - seafaring voyagers inscribing protection, identity, and lineage onto their bodies before riding the Pacific’s endless swells. Those same traditions traveled with sailors who brought them back from the islands, Japan and beyond, carrying the spirit of freedom across every ocean.
That same water runs out to the NYC coast, from the Hudson to Brighton Beach & the Rockaways - where surf culture lives today. Different worlds, same current.
So we traded the fixed New York Studio studio for a life on the move, traveling the world like the sailors who inspired us - tattooing & dropping limited tees and original designs online while hosting pop-ups in coastal towns and far-flung ports. Every thick-collar shirt, every traditional Hawaiian or Japanese tattoo, and every piece we create carries that same spirit: ink that travels with you.
